Dr. James Peter Warbasse (1866-1957)

Dr. James Peter Warbasse, surgeon and philosopher of consumer
cooperation, founded the National Cooperative Business Association in 1916 and
served as its president until 1941. Under his guidance the NCBA flourished and
broadened as the national voice of American cooperation. A prolific and widely
quoted author and lecturer, he poured his energy, skill, and zeal into educating
consumers, as well as into organizing, guiding, and coordinating cooperative development.
He gained worldwide fame as a cooperative advocate.
